Rosie Reports on her Trip to IMCAS 2017 in Paris![]() I’ve just returned from what turned out to be a wonderful long weekend in Paris for the IMCAS Annual World Congress 2017. The International Master Course on Aging Science sees aesthetic practitioners, cosmetic surgeons, and dermatologists from all over the globe meet to share their knowledge. I must start this summary with a confession, though, as I was experiencing some feelings of trepidation leading up to this world renowned aesthetics conference. I suppose I was having a moment of wondering ‘what on earth can little old me matter in an arena of so many giants?’ On the first day of the conference I realised that I needn’t have worried. Having made the 20 minutes or so walk from the hotel, miraculously avoiding falling on the sheet ice of the Parisian pavements, I entered into a friendly reception and within minutes had the most pleasant surprise of bumping into a friend and colleague I hadn’t seen for a long time. Said friend and colleague turned out, very happily, to be a recent recruit to my favourite brand and product, Profhilo, made by IBSA, the Italian hyaluronic acid experts. Writing this blog post got me thinking and recapping on the entire congress agenda, and what strikes me is how expansive it was – from hair restoration to rosacea management. Even amongst such diverse topics it still felt like Profhilo was centre stage from start to finish. Concurrent presentations took place in about 16 rooms over three floors yet Profhilo was the name on everyone’s lips. Natural Results for Looking Good at any AgeMany of you know that I have been offering Profhilo treatments for face, neck, and décolleté rejuvenation in both my Oxford and Leamington Spa clinics for the past six months or so. I added this product to my treatment portfolio having been persuaded of its power by a good clinical colleague and seeing the results for myself, but now the latest science shows there’s even more. In general, those who seek out my help, be it women or men, are looking for natural enhancement. Many of us, regardless of background, tend to be more typically English or European in outlook, shying away from the brash ‘fake-it-all’ images that get the most clicks and discussion in the media, and are not looking to achieve a face which is frozen in time. Rather, we want to look good for our age, or should I say regardless of age. I’ve thought long and hard about age. In a way it has some parallels to wealth. There is always somebody richer and sure as heck there is someone poorer. It’s the same with age, there’s always someone younger and usually someone older so we can abandon worry over those numbers! I think a lot of people want to be able to care about their appearance in a very personal way, and whatever their style, gender, skin colour and age, they want to look good for it. Profhilo Safety ProfileEnter the stage, Profhilo! It’s an alternative dermal filler product which is so close to nature, it does not distort one’s natural features. Due to its combination of high purity and low molecular weight, it travels microscopically by itself under the skin when injected. It is devoid of chemical additions, which are normally added to hyaluronic acid fillers in the stabilisation process. Those sorts of chemical additives are understood to be the main cause of irritation following filler injection, rather than the hyaluronic acid filler itself. Profhilo is brilliant for the face, neck, and décolleté, I also safely use it to rejuvenate the backs of hands, and it can be used on other body areas such as the arms and the stomach. Really, any areas with sagging skin can be improved using Profhilo because of the unique way it travels.
During a highly enjoyable presentation by a noted Italian plastic surgeon, a question was asked by an American doctor about filler side effects and with Profhilo there simply aren’t any. One of the speakers hosts an in-depth training course on all incidents of side effects and reported problems associated with fillers (these include fat grafting). That is at the University of Milan, a coincidence that Profhilo is also an Italian-produced hyaluronic acid. There have been no negative problems associated with it in two years. The same company, IBSA, also offers a range of deeper volumising fillers which I have begun using with fantastic results. I have returned from IMCAS even more enthused and am looking forward to more exciting developments in the science behind these and similar products. I love being able to achieve natural-looking yet transformative results for people, and second-to-none safety.
